LOW-CARB DIET WINS

from Mayo Clinic Arizona and Journal of the American Osteopathic Association

A review of a decade of various low- carb diets, including Atkins, South Beach and Paleo shows a slight edge for low-carb diets compared to low-fat diets. The review comes from the Mayo Clinic in Arizona and the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association. The results come with some caveats, however. Adhering to a low-carb diet appears to be safe for most people and may result in a small advantage in weight loss compared to low-fat diets. The researchers also caution low-carb dieters should eat real food and avoid highly processed foods, especially meats such as bacon, sausage, deli meats, hot dogs and ham. The article notes that a variety of low-carb diets deliver early benefits for people trying to lower their blood pressure levels to manage insulin resistance.
