SECONDHAND POT

from the journal Pediatric Research

Over the years we’ve heard a lot about the harmful effects of secondhand tobacco smoke, especially in children. Until now, we’ve heard very little about effects of secondhand marijuana smoke in children. A study from New York’s Mount Sinai School of Medicine, using data from Colorado, found children exposed to secondhand marijuana smoke had measurable amounts of the psychoactive chemical THC in their systems. Researchers say, like tobacco smoke, marijuana smoke is inhaled by children when adults around them are smoking. They urge educational reminders to parents on the potential or as-yet undetermined dangers posed by secondhand marijuana smoke. The study appears in the journal Pediatric Research.
