Indoor air pollution is blamed for more
deaths than pollution from outdoors,
although outdoor pollution gets more news
coverage. New research in the journal
Science of the Total Environment. Indoor
air pollution includes cooking residue,
paints, varnishes and fungal spores—even
fumes from certain floor coverings. The
study found urban residents spend ninety
percent of their time indoors, resulting in a
range of ill health effects associated with
the “sick building syndrome”. Researchers
say it is essential that we be able to
effectively monitor indoor air pollution in
order to offer solutions to make our air
healthier. The solution could be as simple
as opening a window, but more often,
they urge using technology that actively
monitors indoor air pollutants.
