Most of us struggle to get enough sleep and that may cause long-term health implications other than just feeling like we need the prescribed eight hours of sleep. Those who get more than eight hours may feel lucky, except for a British study in the journal Neurology. Previous studies have already suggested a possible link between sleep and risk of stroke, but this study examines the relationship between change in sleep duration over time and subsequent risk of stroke. Over nearly a decade, researchers found people who slept longer than eight hours a day were at forty-six percent greater risk of stroke than people who slept between six and eight hours. The risk was even greater for those who said sleep increased from short, meaning less than six hours, to long sleep duration over four years.
