My friends who smoke do not like being
reminded of the dangers of their habit, but a
new study in the journal BMC Medicine
cannot be ignored. It provides independent
confirmation that two in every three smokers
will die from their habit if they continue to
smoke. Researcher Emily Banks at the
Australian National University says we
knew smoking was bad, but this study of
more than two hundred thousand people
provides independent evidence confirming
the disturbing findings. Smokers have about
three times the risk of premature death of
those who have never smoked and her
research suggests smokers are likely to die
an estimated ten years earlier than nonsmokers.
An accompanying message is it’s
never too late to quit, no matter your age or
how much you smoke.
