ANTI-AGING RESEARCH

from Texas A&M and Buck Institute for Research on Aging

Laboratory studies suggest that the common pain reliever ibuprofen could hold keys to a longer, healthier life. The research is in collaboration with Texas A & M and the Buck Institute for Research on Aging. So far ibuprofen has extended the lifespan of yeast, worms and fruit flies at doses comparable to those used in humans by an average of fifteen percent. Researchers admit they are not sure why it works, but the study is called a proof of principle to show that common, relatively safe drugs in humans can extend the lifespan of such diverse organisms. They say the research opens the door for a new direction in anti-aging medicine. It is important to keep in mind that although considered relatively safe, ibuprofen can have adverse side effects in humans, particularly at high doses.
